What are Dental Crowns
Dental crowns are coverings to restore the tooth. Crowns are needed when a tooth is fractured, when decay to too large for a filling, or when a patient has cosmetic requests. Crowns can be placed in children and adults to protect the tooth from further damage. Dental crowns are one of the most popular restorations in the mouth. Mainly crowns are made from porcelain or ceramics. If a child needs a crown on a baby tooth it will be made of stainless steel. Also, some crowns might require a metal lining.
Dental Crown Treatment
We truly believe in once a crown is recommended; we need to start the treatment the same day because we never want the tooth to get worst. Our doctor will start treatment by making the area comfortable with a dental injection. Our dentist and dental assistant will work together to remove all the decay and build the tooth back up. A mold will be taken for our lab. You and the team will pick the shade of the new crown so it will look natural within your mouth. At this appointment you will go home with a temporary crown. These temporary crowns aren’t as strong as the final crown, so do not worry if it breaks or comes off. Please just call the office to get a new temporary placed. The permanent crown will be back in our office in about 2-3 weeks. You will come back into the office, the team will remove the temporary crown and fit the permanent crown to you.
At this time, we do not offer same day crowns as we really believe in the integrity of our dental labs.
