What are Dental Crowns?
Dental crowns are coverings designed to restore and protect damaged teeth. Crowns are typically needed when a tooth is fractured, when decay is too extensive for a filling, or when patients have specific cosmetic requests. Crowns can be placed in both children and adults to safeguard teeth from further damage. In fact, dental crowns are one of the most common restorative treatments. They are usually made from porcelain or ceramics, though in the case of children, crowns on baby teeth are often made from stainless steel. Occasionally, crowns may have a metal lining for added durability.
Dental Crown Treatment
When a crown is recommended, we believe in starting treatment the same day to prevent the tooth from deteriorating further. As an emergency dentist near you, we understand the urgency of restoring your tooth before the damage worsens. During your appointment, our dentist will begin by numbing the area with a dental injection to ensure you’re comfortable. The dentist and dental assistant will then work together to remove any decay and build the tooth back up. A mold of the tooth will be taken for our dental lab, and you will collaborate with our team to choose the shade of the crown, ensuring it looks natural in your mouth.
At the end of the visit, you’ll receive a temporary crown to protect the tooth while your permanent crown is being crafted. These temporary crowns aren’t as strong as the final version, so don’t worry if it breaks or comes off—just call the office, and we’ll quickly replace it. Your permanent crown will be ready in about 2-3 weeks, at which point you’ll return for a fitting. Our team will remove the temporary crown and carefully place the permanent one.
Although we do not currently offer same-day crowns, we trust in the precision and quality of our dental labs to ensure that your final crown is a perfect fit, both functionally and aesthetically.
